The David Laing Foundation is an independent grantmaking charity supporting organisations that enrich lives and strengthen communities across regions close to David Laing CBE’s heart. For over forty years, the Foundation has provided funding to charities that create opportunity, enable participation, protect heritage, and improve wellbeing.
David Laing CBE believed profoundly in the power of community, creativity and kindness. His vision was simple: to shine the light where it is most needed—supporting local organisations whose work brings hope, dignity and opportunity to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Today, the Trustees continue this mission by funding charitable projects that deliver meaningful, measurable benefit. We prioritise initiatives that reach many people, build longterm resilience and leave a lasting positive impact.
Mary Laing - Chair of Trustees
As Chair of the David Laing Foundation, Mary Laing provides steady, clear leadership and remains deeply committed to the values championed by her husband, David Laing CBE. Since David’s death in 2024, she ensures the Foundation stays true to its charitable purpose and the spirit of David’s gift. Mary plays a pivotal role in overseeing grantmaking decisions, maintaining the Foundation’s charitable objectives, and nurturing its focus on supporting community life, arts, heritage and opportunity across the regions the Foundation serves
